If you're trying, relentlessly, to get an updated Instagram feed but aren't experiencing much success, welcome to the all-too-common installment of: Instagram was experiencing a pretty weird bug on Thursday.
Thursday afternoon, users noticed that the posts they're seeing on the home feed were all actually posted a few weeks ago, while Stories are still updated normally. People reported Instagram outages on Down Detector, too, starting at around noon eastern and peaking at around 12:30. Since then, users reporting the outage on Down Detector slowly began decreasing in frequency and, at 3:20 p.m. ET, Instagram is already retuning back to normal for some users.
Down Detector is owned by Ziff Davis, Mashable parent company.,

'Andor' teaser: Witness the rise of the Rebel Alliance
![A man peeks out from behind a stone wall.](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/videos/02Y0IQI7G22SQP2R6u4jcB0/hero-image.jpg)
You know and love Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) from Rogue One. Now, he gets his own Disney+ series all to himself with Andor.
The teaser trailer gives us frighteningly few details beyond the beginnings of the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. However, we catch glimpses of Andor hiding from Stormtroopers, as well as an exciting look at rebel leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) in the Senate.
Did I mention that Andor looks gorgeous? Seriously, this teaser is cinematic as heck, full of gorgeous new planetary landscapes that look like a welcome change from previous Star Wars series' fixation on Tatooine. The rebellion can't come soon enough.
Andor is streaming on Disney+ starting Aug. 31.

Splurging while you shop isn't always advisable. Just because something is the most expensive thing doesn't mean it's the best thing. Except when it comes to mattresses. Usually, the expensive ones are pretty good.
But why shell out for a mattress? Well, you'll be using it every day, for one. For that reason alone, you'll want something that doesn't have you waking up with horrible back pain every morning. Also, a mattress is ostensibly an item that you'll have for a very long time, so you want to buy something that'll last for years to come.
We found the best Memorial Day mattress sales happening this weekend and put them all in one place for you. (You're welcome.) Check out our picks below.

Several big ticket stand-up specials are also arriving on the streaming service following the "Netflix is a Joke" comedy festival.

As we deal with the tragic mass shooting in Texas, here's how to help
![A school bus is parked on the street in front of the Uvalde water tower.](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/03kHqhgv1mMGy0SDhu1ck6p/hero-image.jpg)
On May 24, the community of Uvalde, Texas, received the horrific news that there was an active shooter at Robb Elementary School. By the end of the day, we'd learned there'd been yet another mass shooting by a single gunman in the United States; the shooter had killed at least 19 children and two staff members.
The shooting is the latest of multiple, deadly mass shooter events and 44 incidents of public gun violence in just May alone, including those in Buffalo, New York, and Laguna Woods, California. It marks the 213th mass shooting in the country this year, according to data tracking tool Gun Violence Archive. It's the worst school shooting since 26 people, including 20 children, were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.
You're probably tired of hearing this.
And, bluntly, it might feel like there's nothing you can do about the country's current state of affairs, as the victims of the Uvalde, Texas, shooting are memorialized in headlines, government leaders stall the few pieces of effective gun legislation even on the floor, and people offer up "thoughts and prayers" instead of paramount action.
But it's moments like this in which communal shows of support are the most powerful, from individual acts of kindness to local blood donations to national campaigns. Is it enough? Never. Does that mean we shouldn't try? No.
Here are a few small ways to aid the individuals and families recovering from the shooting, as well as the movement for a safe country free from gun violence.
Donate money
Uvalde, Texas, is a small town of around 16,000 people and its public schools serve a predominantly Latinx, non-English speaking population, NBC reported. According to the district, the community is also made up of a majority of lower-income families. Consider donating directly to the Uvalde community and regional gun reform activists, in addition to sending money to national organizations.
Individual Go Fund Me Campaigns
Donation platform GoFundMe created a hub of verified fundraisers for the families of those killed in shooting, intended to curb the amount of fundraising fraud that often occurs after a mass tragedy such as this. The website's Trust and Safety team has vetted each campaign on the page and will continue to update it as more become available.
Texas Gun Sense
Texas Gun Sense is a nonprofit public safety and political advocacy organization that was originally founded as Students for Gun-Free Schools in Texas by survivors of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting. The organization advocates to Texas officials about effective "common sense" gun reform, including things like universal background checks, community-based intervention programs, and other limits on access to assault weapons, and provides state-specific information about gun violence in Texas. Donate here.
Team ENOUGH
Team ENOUGH is a youth-led gun violence prevention organization that's an offshoot of the established gun-reform advocacy group Brady United. The organization advocates for an intersectional look at gun violence that acknowledges the specific impact gun violence has on Black and Brown communities. Donate to support the organization's advocacy work.
March for Our Lives
March for Our Lives is a national youth-led gun reform organization that advocates for stricter gun reform laws and student safety, founded after the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. The organization recently launched its "Aid and Alliance" program, as well, which will distribute $500,000 to BIPOC youth organizations and activists involved in grassroots advocacy. Donate to the organization here.
Everytown for Gun Safety
Everytown for Gun Safety is one of the largest gun violence prevention organizations in the country, with a network of more than 8 million gun reform activists around the country who work to increase civic engagement around gun reform and public safety. The organization also advocates directly with local and national politicians for improved gun policies. Donate to the organization's work here.
Donate time
Blood drives
Right now, area hospitals and health centers are asking community members to donate blood in the wake of the Robbs Elementary School shooting, as healthcare providers already deal with a statewide blood inventory shortage affecting local blood supplies.
Tweet may have been deleted
Uvalde's nearby blood bank, South Texas Blood and Tissue, has continued to donate blood reserves to the small town and update local donors who want to get involved through its Twitter account. Currently, appointments for blood donations are booked through May 28, but the bank requests that donors keep their appointments and continue to schedule more as the need increases.
Tweet may have been deleted
University Health San Antonio, a nearby hospital in San Antonio, Texas, also coordinates blood donations. Learn more about donating blood here.
Use the American Red Cross's map of North Texas locations to find additional sites where you can donate blood to the regional supply.
Or, consider making monetary donations to these centers that go toward general operating costs and future blood drives.
Legal and mental health support
Texas officials and local organizations have also called on professionals in mental health and legal fields to offer their time supporting families and those affected by the shooting.
Texas Republican representative Tony Gonzales, whose district includes the city of Uvalde, tweeted on May 24 that his office was seeking mental health clinicians to support families in Uvalde. Volunteers were encouraged to contact his office at (210) 806-9920. Gonzales previously voted against gun reform legislation.
Legal advocates are also seeking volunteers to help those affected. The San Antonio Legal Services Association has offered pro bono support for the legal needs of all victims, and requested fellow state attorney volunteer their time, as well. You can contact the association by email at UvaldeResponse@sa-lsa.org
Get to know your leaders
It's completely understandable to feel jaded to the power of political representatives to reflect a desire for needed gun reform. But gun reform activists still see effective gun legislation as a vital way to make national-level change.
Along with reading President Joe Biden's post-tragedy remarks calling for common sense gun reform and getting ready to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, voters should be pressuring their representatives to support all levels of gun reform law as legislation continues to stall.
Find out who your representatives are, what bills they’ve introduced, and more through Common Cause, a nonpartisan civic engagement group. Feel free to contact any and all reps to urge them to make changes you believe in. Register to vote and get more information about elections on Vote.gov. You can find out more about state and local election offices here.
Locally, some online are also calling on Texas state leaders to halt upcoming pro-gun events happening across the state, including the NRA Annual Meeting taking place in Houston. According to the association, attendees have already been informed that no firearms will be allowed at the event.
Tweet may have been deleted
Tweet may have been deleted
Part and parcel of holding local and state legislators accountable is staying informed yourself. Use platforms like the Gun Violence Archive, which tracks daily gun-related events across the country, and ShockMarket.org, a tool created by gun reform activists to monitor the amount of gun-related violence since Biden took office, to keep track of the high rates of gun-based violence occurring across the country everyday. On ShockMarket.org, visitors can use built-in tools to tweet statistics directly to their representatives, including President Biden and other White House officials, using prompts like, "@POTUS, 2021 was one of the deadliest years of gun violence in decades — talk about losses gained. Can you please establish an Office of Gun Violence Prevention? Asking for those who no longer can. "
Whatever you can manage to offer in the wake of this latest shooting, let it be more than simple thoughts. Get out on the ground to advocate for reform, donate your time or money, and demand more from representatives. The country needs anything we can get.
This story will continue to be updated with more information.

Plus, you can sometimes save a decent chunk of cash by not opting for the absolute latest option. This fourth-generation iPad Air from 2020 is a Mashable favorite, and it's on sale for $599.
The tablet is WiFi-only and features 256GB of storage, a True Tone display for vivid images, up to a 10-hour battery life, an A14 chip for fast processing, and an impressive 12MP back camera and 7MP front camera for HD pic-taking.
Plus, its 10.9-inch all-screen design gets rid of the excess black border around the screen to maximize display size. (And for those of us who hate Face ID in the age of masks, it unlocks with Touch ID.)
Only the rose gold colorway is on sale at Amazon, but if you're into the color (or willing to put on a case that'll hide the color), then it's a total steal at $599.

Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik confronts cancel culture in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' deleted scene
![A still from the movie](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/videos/02ObrfpLYOcvPWncyN86zVx/hero-image.png)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 picks up eight years after the events of the first movie, which is an extremely long stretch in our 21st-century understanding of time. A lot can change in just eight years, as is clear in this deleted scene, which is part of the special features on the sequel's home entertainment release.
Here, we get to see Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik dealing with the grim reality of a changed modern world. He's paid enough attention to take note of "cancel culture," and he's not a fan, as someone who has himself been canceled. But the bad doctor has a plan, and it involves hacking some innocent person's campaign to crowdfund medical expenses in order to fund his own nefarious deeds.
A low-key highlight of this scene is the lack of computer animation. Knuckles, voiced in the movie by Idris Elba, appears but doesn't say anything. Instead of the dazzling digital creation that fans saw when Sonic 2 hit theaters, Knuckles appears here as an oversized puppet, with its black bodysuited handler clearly visible in the background.
This deleted scene is one of the bonus features that are included with the home video release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which launches May 24 on digital (Amazon, Vudu, iTunes, etc.), with a Blu-ray and DVD launch to follow on Aug. 9.

15 of the best Squarespace templates for bloggers and beyond
![squarespace's website pulled up on an imac sitting on a wooden desk that's surrounded by plants](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/roundups/07fKc2TubJSjZZCOtcEmIx6/hero-image.png)
If you’ve listened to any podcast ever, you already know the spiel: Squarespace is an all-in-one website builder that makes it easy to create a professional-looking online presence. Numbers-wise, it’s the second most popular web builder out there (after Wix) and the third most popular hosting service (after Wix and Shopify), supporting more than 2.8 million live websites across the internet at the time of publication.
One of the primary reasons why Squarespace has seen this success — well, aside from all of those Ira Glass-narrated ad slots — is that you don't need any web design or coding experience to get a beautiful site up and running on its platform. With intuitive drag-and-drop building elements and a vast selection of ultra-modern templates, it's easily one of the most beginner-friendly tools of its kind.
Truthfully, the hardest part about designing a Squarespace site is often just choosing one of those templates — there are 234 of them across Squarespace versions 7.0 and 7.1, the two iterations of the platform that are currently supported. How do you decide which one to use for your oil painting portfolio, your Taiwanese-American food blog, or the online store for your cool-girl jeans? (Those are all different kinds of websites that have been made with Squarespace, FYI.)
Let's get into it — but first, a quick primer.
Why should I use Squarespace?
After fast and easy site design, the best thing about Squarespace is its all-in-one approach: Your plan includes 24/7 customer support, website metrics, SEO features, SSL security, unlimited bandwidth, and video storage, all for as low as $14 a month. (That gets even cheaper if you go with a long-term plan, by the way.) Squarespace also throws in fully managed cloud hosting at no extra cost, plus a year's worth of a new custom domain if you sign up for an annual membership. No need to set anything else up with another provider or platform.
What is a Squarespace template, exactly?
A Squarespace template (or theme) is a pre-designed, ready-to-use demo website that you can customize with different colors, pages, fonts, and drag-and-drop element blocks like text, images, galleries, buttons, and forms. Squarespace describes them as "a starting point to help inspire your site's design," noting that "[you] can keep the structure of your original design intact by replacing the demo content with your own, or you can completely change the design of your site and start from scratch."
Each template has been built exclusively for Squarespace, which means you won’t find them on WordPress, Wix, or other site-building platforms.
Are Squarespace templates mobile-friendly?
All Squarespace templates are mobile-optimized from the jump, which is awesome for two reasons: Mobile-friendly sites look great on all devices and get higher priority from Google when it comes to indexing and SEO rankings.
Templates from Squarespace version 7.0 have separate mobile styles that activate on smaller devices, while their version 7.1 counterparts adapt to mobile view automatically. (More on those in a sec.) Check out Squarespace's tips on how to keep your site mobile-friendly as you continue to build it out.
Which version of Squarespace is better: 7.0 or 7.1?
Squarespace version 7.0 categorizes its 91 templates into certain template "families," which are groups of similarly coded templates alike in their basic structure and functionality. Each one has its own rules and customization options, which means you sometimes need to swap templates and start over (and risk losing content) if you're after a specific feature. Squarespace did away with these families with the release of version 7.1 in early 2020, giving all 143 of its new templates the same features and underlying structure to make it easier to change your site's style in seconds.
That being said, neither version is conclusively "better" than the other. Version 7.1 is probably the ideal choice for people who are new to Squarespace since its template formatting streamlines the design process, but if you've built a site on the platform before, you may want to stick with version 7.0 — its templates have a bunch of advanced features that haven't been added to the new ones yet. (See: parallax scrolling, one especially popular feature of the beloved Brine template family that's missing from version 7.1; people were pretty salty about that one.)
One caveat: While it’s possible to switch between versions 7.0 and 7.1, doing so will usually require a full rebuild and mess with your site's search ranking. On the bright side, Squarespace offers a free 14-day trial so you can noodle around with both versions before you commit.
Is Squarespace better than WordPress?
This one's pretty situational. WordPress is best for people on either end of the customization spectrum: You can use the free version to create a super basic blog, or go balls-to-the-wall on a totally unique, from-scratch website with premium themes and tens of thousands of plugins. Keep in mind that the latter requires managing your own hosting, security, and updates; you may also need to hire a developer if your coding skills aren't up to par.
Squarespace's templates are less flexible than a custom-built WordPress site and lean hard on visuals, but they already have some great built-in features and look pretty snazzy right out of the gate — plus, all of the technical drudgery is handled by the platform itself.
Squarespace also supports the official integrations of certain services, including Apple News (to cross-publish your content), Paypal (to accept payments), and OpenTable (to let guests make reservations), along with a couple dozen third-party extensions. While not as prolific as WordPress plugins, they should be able to meet most of your and your users' needs, no problem.
For a deeper dive into the differences and similarities between Squarespace and WordPress, click here.
How do you find the right Squarespace template for you?
To get started, head over to the Templates tab on Squarespace's website and filter its library by Type and Topic to narrow down your pool of candidates. You can hit "Preview" on any theme that catches your eye to see what it would look like in the wild.
Squarespace recommends choosing a template based on your favorite colors and layouts rather than the demo content you see there: "You can change the style and layout of your site at any time, but you may find it easier to start with a design that's already close to how you want your site to appear," reads a page on its Help Center. "For example, the Dario demo site is designed for a wedding, but you could adapt it to accept RSVPs for a different type of event, or to gather pre-orders for a new product launch."
If you're having trouble settling on one, know this: It's basically impossible to make an ugly Squarespace site, and with enough time and experimentation, you can tweak almost any template to fit your exact vision and needs. But just in case you need a nudge in a certain direction, keep reading: Below, we've rounded up 15 of the best Squarespace templates for all sorts of sites.
Note: Most of our recommendations are from Squarespace version 7.1, but we've sprinkled in a few options from version 7.0 that continue to stand out. Templates have been labeled accordingly.

Russia keeps getting hacked
![Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Summit of Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) at the Grand Kremlin Palace.](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/00VyPVz7DwLgOfVTtSyXeAU/hero-image.jpg)
Russia — a nation that has famously been on the offensive when it comes to cyber attacks — is now facing its own barrage of hacks as multiple sanctions hit the country from the West.
In a meeting with the Russian Security Council on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the number of cyber attacks by foreign "state structures" had increased several times over, Reuters reported.
Putin said the challenges came on the heels of Western suppliers having "unilaterally stopped technical support of their equipment in Russia" in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Since then, there have been data leaks abound, from Russia's second-biggest bank to e-commerce sites, Reuters reported.
Russia has been attempting for a long while to improve its own internet infrastructure so that something like this wouldn't happen. Last summer, it even disconnected from the global internet during tests, Reuters reported. But those tests haven't been able to significantly mitigate impacts of the Western barrage of sanctions imposed over the past few months, according to Reuters.
The nation does say it's ready for more attacks, though, despite being caught off guard by multiple attacks already. The state-owned news agency, TASS, reported that Putin called the anti-Russia sanctions failures.
"Already today we can say that cyber aggression against us, as well as in general the sanctions attack on Russia, have failed,” Putin said, despite hacks against the state that some might consider successes.
This comes as Ukraine continues to disrupt Russian targets including online payment services, government departments, aviation companies, and food delivery firms. According to Wired, Ukraine has an IT Army that attacks a new list of Russian targets around 5 a.m. local time every day.

Kenan Thompson explains Samuel L. Jackson isn't banned from 'SNL' in Jimmy Fallon appearance
![kenan thompson on fallon](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/videos/00mhIVaQ5kCw9IdhSnaMHyT/hero-image.jpg)
During a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Kenan Thompson, longtime Saturday Night Live cast member, cleared the air about a somewhat strange and public beef with Samuel L. Jackson. The actor had claimed he was banned from SNL and seemingly blamed Thompson for it. But the SNL vet refuted the idea and explained what happened on Fallon.
"Hey, Sam? It's all good, bro," Thompson said, looking directly at the camera. "You're welcome any time, from what I've been hearing."
Jackson had said he believed he got the permanent boot after he accidentally dropped an F-bomb on the live show back in 2012. Jackson said Thompson was supposed to cut him off before the curse word but didn't do it in time. Thompson said on Fallon that is must've been a miscommunication. The SNL vet explained that the cue card only had "F" written on it, not the full curse word. But Jackson apparently went for the whole thing.
"He did it twice!" Thompson said. "When he did it the first time, I was processing like 'Oh, snap!' ... We kind of expect the F-word out of Sam Jackson, no harm done. Then he doubled down and said it again. And I was like, 'Yo, my man, we got to pay for those.'"
Thompson closed the story by reiterating that Jackson is welcome any time. Hopefully that clears the air.

Laura Dern is 20 years younger than Sam Neill in Jurassic Park
![Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill looking at a dinosaur eggs in 'Jurassic Park.'](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/07CvGGyfePv0e9elfDZQBhT/hero-image.jpg)
Sam Neill was 20 years older than Laura Dern in "Jurassic Park," an age gap that somehow didn't make the stars uncomfortable until nearly three decades after the 1993 blockbuster hit theaters.
“Laura was a tender age," Neill told The Sunday Times of London via BuzzFeed News of the casting. “I am 20 years older than Laura! Which at the time was a completely appropriate age difference for a leading man and lady." His character, paleontologist Alan Grant, played opposite Dern's character as paleontologist Ellie Sattler.
"It never occurred to me until I opened a magazine and there was an article called 'Old geezers and gals,'" Neill said, according to USA Today. "People like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery acting with much younger people. And there I was, on the list. I thought, 'Come on. It can’t be true.'"
Unfortunately, it was absolutely true. At the time of filming, Dern was 23 years old and Neill was in his early 40s. Now, much to the delight of fans, they're reprising their roles in "Jurassic World Dominion." Dern is currently 55 years old, while Neill is 74 years old.
Dern told the London news outlet that the 20 year age gap was "completely inappropriate," but at the time, she thought it was "completely appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill."
"And it was only now, when we returned in a moment of cultural awareness about the patriarchy, that I was, like, 'Wow! We're not the same age?'" Dern said.
They've already wrapped shooting "Jurassic World Dominion." Jeff Goldblum will also be returning to his role as Ian Malcolm alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. The movie will be released on June 9, 2022.

Watch excellent 'Ugly Sonic' cameo from 'Chip 'n Dale'
![screenshot of ugly sonic from chip n dale rescue rangers](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/videos/00opadnHsnnaIkTmYaz2152/hero-image.jpg)
Remember the year 2019, when we all had the power to delay the Sonic the Hedgehog movie because the first design was so grotesque?
If you don't, here's a quick rundown: The first Sonic trailer dropped, confirming a rumored design that fans already balked at. The backlash was swift and harsh; the internet said that Sonic's teeth were terrifying and the overall design was just bad. Director Jeff Fowler was quick to respond, saying Sonic would be redesigned. Fans were ultimately pleased with the character's new-and-improved look.
Now, we finally know what the original "Ugly Sonic" has been doing this whole time: trying to salvage his career.
Ugly Sonic appears in the new Disney+ movie, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. He's seen at a comic convention, bent on getting the public to like him. "They'll like me for who I am," he says, "Not like last time when the internet got one look at my human teeth and burned the place down."
Judging by Dale's haunting reaction to Sonic's teeth, however, the hedgehog can't really blame us.

Boeing's troubled Starliner makes it to the space station after second try
![Boeing Starliner docking at International Space Station](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/05SwU3DlFLRp9bFHuhQqs5Y/hero-image.jpg)
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have opened the hatch of the recently docked Boeing Starliner, effectively ending a streak of misfortunes over the years for the spacecraft.
The successful test mission helps to secure a second commercial carrier for shuttling astronauts to and from the space station. Elon Musk's SpaceX Crew Dragon completed the same test in 2019 and has since taken 18 astronauts to the destination.
Tweet may have been deleted
Last time the Starliner attempted this spaceflight three years ago, it didn't make it to the station. A software glitch caused it to instead travel onto the wrong preliminary orbit.
Starliner's launch was free of those major problems Thursday when it launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, just before 7 p.m. EDT, though it did experience some thruster issues. The spacecraft blasted off with an Atlas V rocket by Boeing, a venture of the United Launch Alliance.
The thruster surprises didn't prevent the droplet-shaped capsule from docking at the station a day later, and astronauts were able to go inside to check out the spacecraft at about 11:30 a.m. EDT Saturday.
Starliner's test mission did not take any crew up to the space station, but it was flying with a manikin (or womanikin?), dubbed Rosie the Rocketeer. Rosie wore a blue flight suit and red polka-dotted mask made by a real Boeing "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. The purpose of the human simulator was to collect data on cabin conditions during the journey.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Donald Trump's Truth Social launches a web app
![Truth Social logo on a screen](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/01fq6tO47ieEeZx0HVrns7n/hero-image.jpg)
Prepare to see a lot more Donald Trump on social media again. Truth Social is no longer siloed behind an iOS-only mobile app.
Trump's alternative social network, Truth Social, pushed out a notification on Friday to its current iOS app users informing them that a web version of the platform is now available.
![Truth Social Push Notification](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/01fq6tO47ieEeZx0HVrns7n/images-1.fit_lim.size_2000x.v1653078328.png)
"TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS," the Truth Social notification reads. "The Truth Social Web App is now available! Tell them to go to https://truthsocial.com for more info."
Users who visit the Truth Social website will now find a full-fledged web-version of the platform, where they can log in, post to their feed, and view content from other Truth Social users. Previously, those who went to the Truth Social website were just shown a landing page encouraging visitors to download the iOS app.
Much like Truth Social's mobile iOS app, the web app also looks and acts much like a Twitter clone.
![Truth Social logged in screenshot](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/01fq6tO47ieEeZx0HVrns7n/images-2.fit_lim.size_2000x.v1653078328.png)
Truth Social was previously only available to users on Apple iOS devices, such as the iPhone. Yes, the iPhone has a huge smartphone market share. However, roughly half of mobile users have a non-iOS device. Now, basically anyone with internet access can sign up and create an account on Donald Trump's social media platform.
However, Android users are still waiting for a Truth Social app specifically for their device. According to Rolling Stone, this has irked the former president. Reports say that Trump has been privately complaining that Google was trying to "fuck" him.
According to Rolling Stones' source, however, the truth is that Truth Social hasn't even submitted an Android app to the Google Play store yet.
Still, though, the launch of a web app is significant. Truth Social profiles and posts will now be completely shareable on other platforms. Using the iPhone app, if you want to share a Truth Social post on another platform, you have to take a screenshot. Now, Truth Social users will be able to post links directly to any account or post. In turn, non-Truth Social users will have direct access to sign up and engage with content on the site. (Note: Internal Truth Social links currently require users to login to their account in order to see the content.)
![Truth Social Sign Up Page](https://helios-i.mashable.com/imagery/articles/01fq6tO47ieEeZx0HVrns7n/images-3.fit_lim.size_2000x.v1653078328.png)
In short: It's going to be a lot easier for Trump's fanbase to share his content on other platforms.
Launched in February, Truth Social struggled during the first few months. Downloads plummeted after the initial rush to download due to a long waitlist of users wanting to sign up. However, in recent weeks, Trump finally started posting on his own platform, which has helped give the conservative social network another bounce.
Truth Social announced a public beta of the web app just last week. According to a press release from Wednesday, the initial web app rollout was scheduled for some time over the next week or two. However, the social network delivered early when it comes to the web app at least.
No word yet on when Truth Social will submit an Android app so Trump can stop complaining about Google.

How to shop for a new laptop:
Choosing a laptop is entirely dependent on what you'll be using it for. Beginner laptop owners need something user-friendly and straightforward, frequent travelers need something light with a long battery life, designers and gamers need top-notch 4K graphics and quick central processors, and everyone needs something that will last.
The first thing you should do is ask yourself a simple question: PC or Mac? This is an important question, as it's going to make a world of difference in what you can and can't do with your computer. Are you a gamer? A video editor? A business professional? An Apple device owner? The answer to any of these will probably point you towards your final answer. If you're constantly buying the new iPhone every year, editing YouTube videos, recording a podcast, or other creative endeavors of the sort, your best bet may be a Mac laptop. Apple obsessives will be happy with their Mac's compatibility with their other Apple products, and everyone can benefit from Macs' propensity to have better virus protection than that of a PC.
That brings us to the perks of picking up a PC. You can still complete a number of creative projects on a personal computer, but where PCs really shine are their options for customization. PCs are much easier to upgrade part-by-part, as they aren't constrained to Apple-manufactured products (like Macs). And because there is a seemingly endless supply of PC manufacturers, there are a lot more options from what brand you chose, to the software you buy, to the type of graphics card you pick out for your gaming rig. Yes, gamers should always go the PC route — they are far more powerful than what a Mac laptop can handle, and also give you the option to connect VR headsets, if you're into that sort of thing.
What size laptop should you get?
This really comes down to two things: Personal preference and lifestyle. Personal preference is self-explanatory, really — do you like having a huge display, or do you prefer something more compact? Lifestyle is where practicality comes into play. If you're traveling often and usually have your computer on your back in some way, you're going to want to go with something more light and compact (thin, 11-inch models will most likely be the best). But if you're a huge movie buff who doesn't normally take their laptop on the road with them, spring for a 15-inch (and higher) screen with a bulky construction so you can have epic Netflix sessions. If you're getting a gaming laptop, you should probably "go big or go home," as well.
How much should you spend on a new laptop?
This is much more subjective, and at the end of the day, it's really going to come down to your budget. But, if money isn't the number one concern for you, you should really think hard about what you're going to use your laptop for. Need a device with lots of power under the hood and bountiful storage space? Aim for something in the $800 and beyond range. Only using your laptop to edit the occasional Google Doc? Then you can probably get away with spending way below the $500 mark. In other words, don't blow your savings if you don't need to. And if you're looking to go all out, meaning buying a laptop with every bell and whistle imaginable, you can get a monster of a machine for somewhere closer to $2,000.
Are cheap laptops worth it?
You know the old saying: You get what you pay for. But thanks to the technology boom of the last few decades, a cheap laptop can actually take you pretty far and won't break down immediately. It's all about knowing which one to select. Depending on what you use your laptop for the most, staying stingy might be your best option. Check out our roundups for the ones that we think are worth it — here are our favorite cheap laptop models under $500, and the best under $300.
What does it mean when a laptop is certified refurbished?
Don't let the words "refurbished" or "renewed" scare you away — these types of devices are usually perfectly viable options and can end up saving you a lot of money without sacrificing much of anything.
A refurbished device, in its simplest terms, is a product that has been bought, but then returned for some reason. Notice that we didn’t necessarily say that it was returned due to some sort of fault on the device’s part. While that can certainly be true in some cases, it isn’t always. Oftentimes, a certified refurbished laptop never even left its original packaging.
While yes, saving money is a huge benefit of buying a "refurb," it's far from the only reason to consider getting one. What's great about refurbished devices is that they undergo rigorous performance tests to ensure that they are still in good condition (sometimes more strictly than the stuff coming right off the production line). There's also a chance that any refurbished laptop you buy may have been so lightly used, that it could almost be considered brand-new (just way cheaper).
We're big fans of buying refurbished gear for kids, especially when it comes to electronics. If you're shopping for a laptop for a kid who is under the age of 15, then refurbished is really the way to go. For kids of high school age and beyond who are a bit more careful with their digital gear, then a new laptop isn't as risky. Of course, it depends on the kid.
