'The Office' stars ring in 2021 with a *very* on-brand jello stunt
Nothing says "Happy New Year" quite like a good, old-fashioned...jello explosion? Well, OK!
During NBC's 2021 New Year's Eve celebration on Thursday, The Office stars Kate Flannery and Oscar Nunez made a surprise appearance to mark the sitcom's official move from Netflix to Peacock. In a pre-taped stunt, the ludicrously likable sitcom alums reflected on the (to put it mildly) bumpy past few months and enthused over the promise of a fresh trip around the sun.

LG's new QNED TVs are the first to feature Mini LED technology
LG will announce its first-ever Mini LED TV at CES in January.
The company is well-known for quality OLED TVs, but Mini LED technology is said to be even better than OLED in some regards (and definitely superior to plain old LCD), so LG is dipping its toes into those waters as well.
The new TVs will officially be called LG QNED Mini LED TVs, and I bet it will leave many customers scratching their heads. The name is reminiscent of Samsung's QLED TVs, which is a name that's similar to OLED, even though QLEDs are essentially LCDs enhanced with Samsung's quantum dot tech. The year of the beep: How car horns became the rallying cry of 2020
Before 2020 I hated the sound of car horns.
Honking is often associated with road rage or used to warn people of impending danger, and because I'm easily startled, even rare friendly beeps from familiar faces trying to say hello make me jump. But this year, instead of causing anxiety, the sound of blaring car horns, trucks loudly honking, and cyclical beeps emanating from packed parking lots filled me with pure, unbridled joy.
I never imagined that the harsh, alarming sound of car horns would sound like music to my ears, but the unexpected pivot was a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic. When people learned that social distancing was a crucial safety precaution they started getting creative and seeking out safer ways to host and attend large public gatherings. How to plan for 2021 after saying good riddance to 2020
Finally, it's time to end this miserable year.
If the 2020 memes are any indication, we've long been ready to start over. Perhaps, like the calendar meme posted by the actress Reese Witherspoon in August, you too have felt trapped in a loop that has only two settings: shock and despair.
The end of December typically brings fresh optimism, the conviction that by marking a milestone you can set new goals and imagine how your life may change for the better in the year to come. Of course, the coronavirus pandemic has upended that ritual, like it has everything else.
While there's hope on the horizon in the form of widespread vaccination, we still face daunting unknowns, like how long it'll take to for most of the population to receive the vaccine, whether the new stimulus bill will keep people from sliding deeper into poverty, and a timeline for when we'll be able to hug our loved ones. There are looming threats to the stability we crave, including the possibility of a new variant of the coronavirus that may be more contagious, and a president who relentlessly seeks ways to overturn his election loss. Set over half a century after 2017's Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984 catches up with the titular hero in a time of shoulder pads, crimped hair, and jazzercise. The sequel sees Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) reunite with her long lost love interest Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), and come up against new characters Barbara Ann Minerva (Kirsten Wiig) and Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal).
It’s a fun film, and a decent night in. Even so, Wonder Woman 1984 raises numerous troubling questions that are never satisfactorily answered — the most significant of which revolve around one character only listed in the credits as "Handsome Man." Read more...

Apple car will launch later than we thought, report claims
If there's ever a reward for the most mythical gadget, the Apple car should win it. The fabled electric, self-driving vehicle has reportedly been in the works for at least six years, and a recent report rekindled hopes that we might see it on the roads fairly soon, as early as 2024.
However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is here to pour some cold water on those dreams. Kuo's recent research note (via MacRumors) says that Apple car will likely be launched in the period from 2025 to 2027, and possibly even later.
The first time frame, Kuo says, is "if development starts this year and everything goes well" which sounds optimistic in a time of a global pandemic (not to mention "this year" only having four days left). Kuo says that "due to changes in the EV/self-driving market and Apple's high-quality standards," he would not be surprised if the car were postponed to 2028 or later. Read more...
