The best Metro by T-Mobile deals (August 2019)
Metro by T-Mobile is the no-contract subsidiary of T-Mobile that was previously known as MetroPCS. Whatever name it uses, it has some excellent deals on both plans and phones if you want to same some money, and we have the best current deals you can get from the carrier.
Metro by T-Mobile deals – Two unlimited lines for $80 a month
The first Metro by T-Mobile deal will let you get two lines, all with unlimited high-speed data, for just $80 a month. That’s with taxes and fees included.
The plan also lets users access up to 15GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data, plus 100GB of cloud storage via Google One. Finally, it throws in a free subscription to Amazon Prime, which on its own normally costs $12.99 a month. Unfortunately, the Amazon Prime offer is for new customers, not current users. This plan also requires signing up for at least one new line of service.
This is easily one of the best Metro deals, but there are some strings. Users may experience slower speeds in congested locations if they use more than 35GB of data before their billing period ends. Also, video streaming is limited to 480p resolution with this plan.
Metro by T-Mobile Deals – Get two Samsung Galaxy A20 phones for “free”
Another Metro deal lets you get the two Samsung Galaxy A20 smartphones, which are normally priced at $239.99 each, for free. Here’s how this deal works:
- First, purchase one Samsung Galaxy A20 phone from Metro by T-Mobile, and connect that phone to an already existing wireless phone number, and you will get an instant $239.99 rebate. This deal does not work with current T-Mobile numbers or ones that have been active on Metro by T-Mobile in the past 90 days.
- Then, buy a second Samsung Galaxy S20 phone and sign up for a new line of service, and Metro by T-Mobile will give you another instant $239.99 rebate. You will still have to pay sales taxes and an activation fee.
The Samsung Galaxy A20 has a 6.4-inch display, an Exynos 7884 processor running at 1.8Ghz, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage, with a microSD card for adding additional storage. It also has 13MP and 5MP rear cameras, an 8MP front-facing camera and a 4,000mAh battery.
Metro by T-Mobile deal – get even more phones for “free”
Metro by T-Mobile is also offering a way to get other phones for free including the Motorola Moto E6, the Moto G7 Play, the Moto G7 Power, the LG Stylo 5, and the Samsung Galaxy J7 Star. Just port an already existing wireless phone number to the “free” phone of your choice and you will get an instant rebate for the cost of that phone. This deal does not work with current T-Mobile numbers or ones that have been active on Metro by T-Mobile in the past 90 days. You will still need to pay an activation fee and sales taxes for these “free” phones.
Metro by T-Mobile deal – iPhone 7 for $49.99
Another Metro by T-Mobile deal lets you get an iPhone 7, with 32GB of onboard storage, for just $49.99. Normally the phone costs $449.99. You will need to switch an already existing number over to Metro by T-Mobile to get this deal. It’s also only available at Metro by T-Mobile stores. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display, along with a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.
Metro by T-Mobile deal – get a MetroSMART Ride or MetroSMART Hotspot for free
Our final deal offers customers a way to get a MetroSMART Ride online car add-on for free or a MetroSMART stand-alone mobile hot spot for free. You will need to activate a new line of service for each of these devices to get the instant rebate ($109.99 for the MetroSMART Ride device and $79.99 for the MetroSMART hotspot). You will still need to pay sales taxes, activation fees and the first month of service to get these devices for “free”

Did your aluminum Apple Watch mysteriously crack itself? Apple might replace the screen for free
So your aluminum Series 2 or Series 3 Apple Watch is suddenly cracking around the edges… but you don’t remember bumping it on anything, or being particularly rough with it.
Surprise! It might not be your fault at all.
Apple says that they’ve determined that “under very rare circumstances”, the displays on aluminum Series 2 and 3 Watches are developing cracks that can wrap along the rounded edges.
The good news? If Apple determines your display crack is caused by this newly discovered issue, they’ll replace the screen for free. The bad news? It’s not the kind of thing they can fix at the Genius Bar, so getting it patched up means shipping the Watch to Apple and being without it for 5+ days.
(It sounds like the kind of cracks they’re looking for are pretty specific — they’re looking for cracks that developed around the rounded edges, as pictured above. So if you really just dropped something on the watch and the display got obliterated, you probably aren’t gonna be able to pull a fast one here.)
As spotted by MacRumors, Apple has a full list of watches that are going to be covered under this new screen replacement program here. The company says that all eligible aluminum Series 2 and 3 watches will be covered under this new screen replacement program for 3 years from its original retail purchase date, or one year from today — whichever is longer.

The coming week is shaping up to be pretty eventful for Samsung, thanks to a few key product launches. The Galaxy Watch Active 2, for example, is rumored to be heading for a Sept. 6 launch in South Korea -- on the same day that Samsung will reportedly launch, at last, its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold.
At this point, the rumor is that Samsung will take advantage of the first day of the IFA 2019 consumer electronics trade show in Berlin -- which runs from Friday, Sept. 6, to Wednesday, Sept. 11 -- as a high-profile opportunity to attract attention for the Galaxy Fold's much-anticipated launch. The company has supposedly fixed the design and software problems that doomed the original April launch, and while it's monumentally important to ensure those earlier problems are indeed fixed, the company may also have another trick up its sleeve.

Earlier this month, security researchers for Google's Project Zero revealed a wild iOS exploit that would allow a malicious actor to completely take over a targeted device with absolutely no interaction from the device owner themselves. Apple ultimately patched the exploit, though there's no indication that the exploit was actually used in the wild.
The same, however, can't be said about a new piece of malware recently disclosed by security researchers working for Google's Project Zero. In a jaw-dropping report, Ian Beer of Project Zero reveals how a collection of hacked websites distributed malware to any iOS device that visited the site in question. The malware relied upon quite a few 0-day vulnerabilities in iOS and reportedly impacted devices running iOS 10 through iOS 12.

Chinese troops in Hong Kong won’t ‘sit on hands’ if situation worsens – China Daily
SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Chinese soldiers stationed in Hong Kong are not there merely for symbolic purposes and they will have "no reason to sit on their hands" if the situation in the city worsens, an editorial in the China Daily newspaper said on Friday. China on Thursday completed what it called a routine rotation of the air, land and maritime forces stationed in the former British colony, which has been rocked since June by a wave of sometimes violent demonstrations.

‘Hitman’ and ‘Tekken’ highlight Xbox Games with Gold for September
![Xbox Games with Gold Xbox Games with Gold](https://boygeniusreport.files.wordpress.com/2019/08/xbox-gwg-september-2019.png?w=610)
It was apparently the team over at PlayStation's turn to trounce Xbox with September's selection of free games for subscribers, as the Games with Gold for next month are underwhelming, especially compared to August's. But I can't be too disappointed, as the highlight of the month is unquestionably the first season of Hitman, which remains one of my favorite games of this entire generation. If you haven't played it yet, grab it on Sunday.
I'm not as familiar with any of the other titles, but I know a lot of people who love the Earth Defense Force games, so here's your chance to grab one for free. Oh, and there's a Tekken game in there as well.

China’s Xi says ‘bigger step’ possible in offshore oil, gas development with Philippines
SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Chinese President Xi Jinping said China and the Philippines could take a "bigger step" in the joint development of oil and gas resources in the South China Sea if they can "properly" handle their dispute over sovereignty. Xi made the remarks on Thursday in a meeting in Beijing with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who has positioned himself as a friend of Beijing but has come under growing pressure at home to push back against China's maritime assertiveness

UK calls for broad support to tackle Gulf shipping threats
LONDON (Reuters) - British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab will call for more international support to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz when he meets his French and German counterparts later on Friday for talks about Iran. Last month, Iran seized a British-flagged oil tanker in the strait, the Gulf's outlet to the open seas, in apparent retaliation for Britain's seizure in Gibraltar of an Iranian ship accused of violating European sanctions by taking oil to Syria. Britain joined a U.S.-led mission to escort merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz at the start of August but Germany and France declined to take part amid fears that it could increase the chance of open conflict with Iran.

It’s finally time to name the Mars 2020 rover, and NASA wants suggestions
![name mars rover name mars rover](https://boygeniusreport.files.wordpress.com/2019/08/name20190625-16.jpg?quality=98&strip=all&w=610)
NASA's Mars 2020 mission will officially kick off in July of next year, and there's still plenty to do before that can happen. The spacecraft NASA will send to the Red Planet needs to be fully assembled and everyone needs to be checked and checked again to ensure there are no hiccups along the way. Oh, and the Mars 2020 rover still needs a name.
As it's done in the past, NASA is enlisting the help of the public to come up with a moniker for its fancy new robot. Starting this week, NASA is requesting that K-12 students send in their name suggestions and short essays explaining why they think their nickname would be a good fit for the rover.

Google lets David Drummond do the talking
Anyone wondering if Alphabet might reprimand its chief legal officer, David Drummond, for a long-ago extramarital, inter-office affair that continues to be a distraction to the company, the answer seems to be . . . not right now. Though a former subordinate outlined in greater detail than ever yesterday the “hell” she says she has endured in the years since her break-up with Drummond, including a custody battle for their son that she won, Google said today it is not sharing a statement on the matter.
Instead, we were pointed by Google to the personal statement that Drummond issued this afternoon, wherein he acknowledges the affair with Jennifer Blakely, a former senior contracts manager with the company during a time when Drummond was Google’s general counsel.
As BuzzFeed notes, he doesn’t apologize to Blakely, saying instead of their “difficult break-up 10 years ago” that “I am far from perfect and I regret my part in that.” He also emphasizes that there are “two sides to all of the conversations and details Jennifer recounts,” saying that he takes a “very different view about what happened.”
Drummond’s full statement:
It’s not a secret that Jennifer and I had a difficult break-up 10 years ago. I am far from perfect and I regret my part in that.
Her account raises many claims about us and other people, including our son and my former wife. As you would expect, there are two sides to all of the conversations and details Jennifer recounts, and I take a very different view about what happened. I have discussed these claims directly with Jennifer, and I addressed the details of our relationship with our employer at the time.
But I do want to address one claim that touches on professional matters. Other than Jennifer, I never started a relationship with anyone else who was working at Google or Alphabet. Any suggestion otherwise is simply untrue.
I know Jennifer feels wronged and understand that she wants to speak out about it. But I won’t be getting into a public back and forth about these personal matters.”
Drummond is presumably hoping that by acknowledging Blakely’s post, the affair will recede again into the background, and it might. Drummond has enjoyed the support of the company for the last 17 years, even while Google officially recognized the affair back in 2007.
On the other hand, other powerful people who’ve come under scrutiny for their decision-making have discovered they have less control over a situation than they imagined. While Alphabet isn’t a democracy, Google employees have shown they’re willing to flex their muscle if need be to force change on the company, and Blakely’s account has seemingly infuriated anew many who say the company’s culture has always been, and continues to be discriminatory toward women.

‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ and ‘Darksiders III’ are September’s free PS Plus games
![PlayStation Plus free games PlayStation Plus free games](https://boygeniusreport.files.wordpress.com/2019/08/playstation-plus-september-2019.jpg?quality=98&strip=all&w=610)
When Sony announced that it was eliminating PS3 and PS Vita titles from its monthly selection of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers, I was cautiously optimistic that the quality of the PS4 titles would improve as a result. That optimism has been rewarded this week, as Sony revealed that two great triple-A titles will be free to download next Tuesday: Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders III.
These are two of the best action franchises of the last two generations, and if you haven't played either of them yet, be sure to grab them when they're available next month. Arkham Knight is a brilliant end to a fantastic trilogy, and while Darksiders III isn't perfect, it's good to see that the franchise has survived this long.

Stocks to rise as rate cuts beat back trade worries for now – Reuters poll
By Vivek Mishra and Rahul Karunakar BENGALURU (Reuters) - World stocks will keep rising over the coming year, according to the latest Reuters polls of strategists, but wild gyrations are likely in the lift from expected central bank policy easing and drag from developments in the U.S.-China trade war. Fears of a global economic slowdown as the world's largest economies become more deeply locked in a tit-for-tat trade tariff war unnerved world stocks last year, with all the indexes polled by Reuters, barring India and Brazil, in the red in 2018

UK car output slumps nearly 11% in July on weak export demand
LONDON (Reuters) - British new car production fell by an annual 10.6 percent in July, the 14th consecutive month of declines due to weak demand in EU and Asian markets and model changes, an industry body said on Thursday. Car demand has been hit by a number of factors in recent months including a slump in sales of diesel vehicles in Europe and weakening demand in China, the world's biggest automotive market. Last month, British car factories churned out 108,239 cars, hit by a 14.6% drop in exports, which account for four in five vehicles, whilst production for domestic demand rose 10.2%, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said
