Stephen Colbert unpacks Joe Biden's presidential bid

No comments :
TwitterFacebook

After quite a bit of speculation, former Vice-President Joe Biden launched his 2020 presidential run over the weekend.

It got the attention of Stephen Colbert, who spent some time talking about Biden's campaign video, which talked about Trump's reaction to Charlottesville — something that the president had to explain again.

"Trump's already worried about Joe Biden," Colbert said. "And the proof of that is that this ad did something none of the other Democrats have been able to do, and that's put Trump on the defensive." Read more...

Noah Centineo and Jimmy Fallon drop moves you've seen at every high school dance

No comments :

Perfect Date star and presumably perfect date Noah Centineo seems to know his way around an awkward high school dance floor.

Everyone's favourite Netflix teen rom-com star challenged Jimmy Fallon to a dance battle on The Tonight Show Monday night, using weird moves that could be found at a school dance.

There's the classic "Dirty Dancing when the Chaperone Ain't Looking," and the extra wavy "Science Room Lava Lamp." But the most relatable is the "Making Eye Contact with Everyone But the Person You're Slow Dancing With."

Adorable. Too real. Read more...

Sports Illustrated first: Swimsuit issue features model wearing a hijab and burkini

No comments :

Somali-American model Halima Aden just made history as the first to ever wear a hijab and burkini in Sports Illustrated’s signature swimsuit issue.

The 21-year-old will appear in the May 2019 issue of the magazine with a series photographed by Yu Tsai at Kenya's Watamu Beach.

For the shoot, Aden donned a collection of colourful hijabs and burkinis — a swimsuit that covers most of the body except the hands, feet, and face, which is worn by some Muslim women.

And the pictures are absolutely stunning.

No one noticed, but Uber and Lyft stopped accepting new NYC drivers

No comments :

New wannabe Lyft and Uber drivers are out of luck in New York City.

Both ride-hailing apps stopped taking on new drivers in the past monthUber's hold went into effect on April 1 and Lyft's waitlist for drivers followedPolitico noticed the hold on new drivers in an article published Monday, almost a month after Uber stopped accepting new drivers.

Lyft confirmed that New York City is the only place where Lyft operates with a waitlist. Uber said NYC is its only U.S. city with a driver hold. Uber suggests interested drivers deliver for Uber Eats or drive outside the city.

Both websites for NYC drivers post information about the hold on new drivers in plain sight: Read more...

People really love this video of a dude unclogging a drain

No comments :

This content literally sucks.

A 16-minute video of a man clearing a "massive clog" is making the rounds on Reddit right now. While that may sound super boring, the general consensus is quite positive: unclogging videos are satisfying.

Apparently, nothing brings strangers on the internet together like a video of sticks being plucked from a drain.

Unlike the lake water in the video, the comments are flowing. People discovering the weird world of drain videos on YouTube were both surprised and pleased to find the subculture.  Read more...

Chinese ride-hailing company buys Times Square billboards to shame Tesla

No comments :
TwitterFacebook

A popular Chinese ride-hailing company that only offers high-end electric vehicles is fed up with Tesla.

IUnicorn, also known as Shenma Zhuanche, expressed its annoyance with the electric carmaker last week when it revealed Times Square billboards that were directed at Tesla — all of which publicly shame the company for delivering faulty vehicles.

On IUnicorn's Weibo page, the company shared its  new campaign calling out Tesla for bad quality control in China. It also rolled out several large Times Square billboards as part of the campaign.

Here's what the billboards looked like, according to the company's posts. Quartz reports that the messages were only up for 30 minutes. It's unclear why the notices were pulled so quickly. Read more...

Why the Battle of Winterfell on 'Game of Thrones' was a disappointment

No comments :
TwitterFacebook

WARNING: Major spoilers for Game of Thrones: Season 8, Episode 3

The Battle of Winterfell should have been the battle to end all battles. Instead, it was just... meh.

Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed the White Walker v. Winterfell face-off just fine. The aerial shots were stunning, the pacing was heart-wrenching, the scope was unbelievable, and the episode was overall very entertaining. If this were any other franchise, I'm sure I would have been blown away.

But, this is Game of Thrones.

With high-stakes conflicts like the Battle of the Blackwater and the Battle of the Bastards (and the major losses that came with them) in recent memory, the surprisingly cheery Battle of Winterfell failed to deliver much of what makes Thrones so typically phenomenal.  Read more...

Chase bank tried to be relatable on Twitter and got absolutely dunked on

No comments :
TwitterFacebook

Brands, may we remind you for the umpteenth time, that if you're trying to get #relatable on Twitter, you're opening yourself up to being completely and utterly owned.

People have a lot of strong feelings about when and where brands can interject their own witty repartee in online discourse. No matter how seemingly wholesome (woke soap, anyone?) or unbelievably tone deaf (Sunny D's faked mental health crisis), the response is usually a resounding SILENCE BRAND

JPMorgan Chase was the latest brand to get shut down over a failed attempt at reaching the masses with a tweet that has since been deleted. However, the internet always keeps the receipts.  Read more...
